When we opened our doors in 2002, AbleTech Design set out help businesses, contractors, and lighting specifiers complete designs for buildings of all sorts. Over the years we have developed our expertise in education and in testing more energy-efficient technologies, such as LED-based lighting and dimming control systems.
Lighting in the 21st Century
Today, AbleTech Design had energy conservation as on of our prime goals and we focus on:
commercial and industrial lighting design;
adult education in lighting design and energy management;
technical consultancy;
research and development; and
relationships with specialist suppliers and technology providers.
Director – Dr Eddie Collins-Hughes,

Eddie has over 20 years experience in the commercial lighting industry, including design.
An award-winner engineering designer in battery-powered vehicles and robotic control, Eddie has worked with some of the largest companies and their distributors in the lighting industry including Zumtobel, GE Lighting and Artemide.
Associate – Sam Walle,
B Arch, LIA Certificate, Zumtobel Lighting Consultant Diploma
Sam studied architecture at university and spent 3 years as a lighting designer with Zumtobel.
While working at a design consultancy in London he managed a team of designers on large scale
projects across several time zones. In New Zealand he has promoted the creative approach to
lighting design which is already commonplace in international design hubs.
